Sorry I missed your comment here Dennis. What you suggested is exactly what I am planning: a 100% scale piece of the map, along with a reduced view of the whole map. Each person will have their own 2-page spread.I'm also picking out several things to submit, and very excited about this.
I wonder how you plan to deal with the big differences in size. Our maps range from quarter-page book maps to 24x36 sheets with mapping on both sides. Just reducing big maps to fit on your page will cause them to lose something; I'd suggest showing a representative swatch--at the original scale--from oversized maps.
Also, to increase visibility and legitimacy, I'd suggest mailing some kind of note to well-known design firms who do maps but might not know CartoTalk: Reineck + Reineck in San Francisco, Pentagram and 212 in NY, etc.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the deadline. We have lots of cool stuff, and it is shaping up to be a really great book. Don't miss out!
Hope you received enough submissions. Looking forward to updates on the progress.

We ended up with plenty of submissions, and the book currently stands at about 72 pages of mappy goodness. I am finishing up the layout in the next day or two (I needed to get some more RAM to handle the hundreds of megabytes of PDFs in the layout), and then will be sending out page proofs to the accepted cartographers.Just a reminder that tomorrow is the deadline. The final book should go to the printer in a week or so. Once that happens I will pull together a page on how to purchase the book.

For those that haven’t realized it yet. This is going to be big.
It’s global and it’s creative with a slice of altruism.
All in the profession will benefit in the long run.
Keep up the good work!

There’s no beating around the bush and certainly no pussyfooting with this guy Nick.
This will become mega.
Well done one and all.

Just thought I would post a quick update. The book is basically done. I am waiting on a proof print, and an ISBN number to finalize it. It will probably be another week or two before it is completely done and ready for purchase. The final price is going to be $39.95 which is higher than I had hoped but that's what it has to be to allow for the possibility of distribution in regular retail channels.
I just can't wait! You pulled it off in a record time! It's a great project, thank you!

There are 36 map spreads, and a few people have 2 maps, so probably 32 individual cartographers.Way-da-go- Nick!
How many contributors by the way?
