The folks over at ER Mapper used to have a wonderful collection of open-source data available through BitTorrent at Geotorrent.org. The site seems like its no longer available. Anyone have any insight on if this is permanent? A whois lookup shows that the site remains registered though 2009.

I learned from our GIS programmer that ERMapper (who runs geotorrent) was having issues keeping it up. They were then bought out by Leica Geosystems who has now merged with Erdas so who knows what has happened to geotorrent amidst all of that change. Considering all of that, it seems that we shouldn't count on it being back any time soon. :(

They were a great resource, so perhaps we should collectively bombard Erdas with emails asking them to bring it back it to life.
