Does anyone know if there is a quick way to browse the ArcMap 9.2 symbol .styles without adding and viewing each .style set through the symbol selector? Is there a "master" sheet somewhere?
ESRI's symbols are font so you could use a font viewer like Fontlister (the old free 2.0 version works just fine...
You can choose the text you want to use for display (useful if your search a style for a specific phrase) but I use a character table with all the ANSI characters from Textpad so I have all the symbols/char available on screen...
Hope it helps!

Open ArcMap > Tools > Styles > Style Manager ... then click around to look at all your different styles.

Another option is to go through the Style Manager in ArcMap.
Open ArcMap > Tools > Styles > Style Manager ... then click around to look at all your different styles.
Thanks Mike! I didn't realize there was a symbol-set preview in the manager. I was working with symbols from the Label Manager!

Sure, no problem. A neat feature in the Style Manager is that you can create styles on the spot. Just select the folder (eg Scale Bars) and then right click in the right-hand side window, expand the New option and create a new style for scale bars. This can be done with all the different elements like color ramps, marker symbols, fill symbols, etc.

I think the only thing missing from there at this point is the ESRI_Optimized style introduced at 9.2
