[Nick Springer]

I first saw these in Wired Magazine but the web site is even better. This artist decorates translucent spheres with thematic maps and imagery and lights them from within.

Some of the thematic data, information graphic and cartographic principles are questionable but overall these are very cool and beautiful works.

Note: the site has a lot of large images on this one page so it is best experienced with broadband.
