Please excuse me jumping right in with my first post, and I apologize if this is in the wrong location, but I need help!
A friend sent me the pic below, and I got curious about what I was looking at. After spending most of the day looking at Google Earth, I thought this might be the kind of place where I could find the answer.

So, what Island/Continent am I looking at? TIA

Tough one. It kinda looks like the Straits of Messina between mainland Italy (on the left) and Sicily (on the right), seen from a northwestern-ish direction. But I'm not sure.

It is all fake anyways, man has never gone to the moon or space, it is just taped in a studio in Hollywood!

Seriously, I am sorry I can't beof more help. Hans - I am just looking at the straits of Messina, and I can't really see this place.

What can we conclude from the looks of it? I would guess temperate. It is very hard to guess the scale of it, too. Is that a river we see in the photo? I would guess a road first, but you wouldn't see that from space...

I'm quite sure that is the northern part of New Zealand's South Island on the left, and the the southern part of North Island on the right.
