Nice! Two random design comments:

The A1 motorway seems too narrow compared to the size of other roads.

It seems funny to have the pedestrian walks and pathways through parks darker than streets, as the walking "network" doesn't hang together. I would try something halfway between the white street color and the tan ground color.

Do you know of results that stand out that are not labor-intensive?

Oh yeah - 'stand out' doesn't necessarily mean positive! I am sure that a close-up of the photo of the mayor's right nostril would stand out featured in the corner of the map! :)

Hans,

Thank for sharing.

I did not read all the comments (so this might be redundant)
I noticed index numbers '4' overlapped other text.
... Welgel street reads upside down... is this 'wanted'.

On the issues of a circular reference grid you mentioned. (I think it is a neat idea)

we'll find out when these will be printed and used...

Should you get a 'Study' made. ;) or maybe get a few potential users around a table to try it out.

Well... it's the "Welgelegenlaan" (the street makes a 90 degree turn and the word "laan" goes with it too), so this is, despite its upside-down-ness, the only useful solution I could come up with. There's more problem-areas like that (short streets named after famous people with double-barrelled names and multiple titles)

Too late for that :)
