I went to the launch of this new product last night. The launch was done in a wine and cheese tasting atmosphere. There was over twelve workstations set up with a CartoVista project related to world wide wine statistics that enabled the attendees to find out about the wines they where tasting. Pretty cool (although I am not a wine type of person).

I had the opportunity to work 2 years for DBx Geomatics, the company behind this product. They are a very dynamic team of cartographers, programmers, geographers and designers.

In sum CartoVista is an innovative web-based mapping solution to share and publish statistical data. It is based on Adobe Flash technologies.

It is not a 'Flash' in the pan product. DBx Geomatics has numerous clients using CartoVista. Last night marked the official launch of CartoVista.

Enough bragging about my friends over at DBx here is the link to that product.

It definitely looks impressive.

I was a bit at a loss, though, what exactly the app does. Surely, with more time spent at the website, that becomes clear. But after several minutes I still didn´t know

1) Is it a web-based service?
2) If so, what business model does it follow?

I´m trying to be constructive, and I think the way it is advertised could be clearer. Obviously this doesn´t have much to do with the product.

Wine, cheese, maps? Say no more!

I did the demo and it is actually very useful and not bad looking. Hopefully its modular so they can add on business analytical tools, if they don't have them already.
Thanks for sharing!
