I am looking for world-wide historic political boudary files at various dates. Any ideas? Thanks!
Somebody here posted a collection of shapefiles with political boundaries at various times in history. I can't remember who it was (could have sworn it was either Charlie or Dave from ESRI, but I searched through their posts and couldn't find it) and obviously can't find that post again. I did save it at that time though, so I'm reposting it now:

Obviously, I am not the one who created this collection, so please direct your compliments to whoever it was who did this (the same goes for complaints...

Here are some other options:
If you download the ViewConflicts application, it has historic world boundaries: http://www.svt.ntnu....istrib_version/
There is also some kind of data available through the "Correlates of War" research project. I was communicating with a guy in the spring of 2007 on that, but it is not available for a download, at least not directly from that website. http://www.correlatesofwar.org/

Sorry, it wasn't me, but I do have an amateur interest in history and would like to do some maps on historical subjects. So, thanks for the link.
