Presently I’m working on the Tutankhamen version, anyone know the Hieroglyphic for 'click'?

man walking towards the left - mummy - bird - eye

I have a friend who is Danish, I could ask him to do that language, if you like...

Some of you may be wondering, ”why so many languages for the Stavanger city map?”

Just to clear up any misconceptions or doubts about this project, Stavanger is part of the ICORN project: http://www.icorn.org/

I’m sure that most of you will agree with me that even a simple map in the native tongue of a person who has been persecuted and are on their way to freedom in Stavanger would appreciate the welcoming gesture.

I know it’s not much, but there we are, that’s my meagre contribution.

Hope the weekend has kicked in for most of you, mine’s a working one.

Kevin Paul

PS Danish, yes please. Hieroglyphic= love it, great translation Hans!

Very true, but it's been a while since we last persecuted somebody over here...

Jan Mulder a Radio DJ friend of mine in Den Helder told me that he was accosted last Friday night for playing ABBA on his midnight stint at the Radio Station. It reminded me a little of Clint Eastwood’s first film as director ”Play Misty for me” any of you remember?
Jan was certainly not expecting the GBH he was subjected to when leaving the station at 03:00 in the morning.

I’d call that persecution, wouldn’t you?

Anyway I heard from him this evening and he owned up to the fact that it was all a publicity stunt. Understandable as he’s a little short on women at present. Hence his George Costanza (Seinfeld) stunt on someone feeling sorry for him in the early hours of the morning in some Den Helder dive.

Btw I did initially ask him to do the Dutch translation for me. After reading his translation a few times I began to suspect that he added a few words that had nothing to do with “Click” or “Maps”.

He’s promised to keep in touch, but I gave him the old “I’ll call you” routine.

Back to the grindstone.

Best wishes,
Kevin Paul

Or drunken people who don't like Abba (it also kinda depends on the format of the radio station).

Anyway, here's the Danish:

Sorry for late reply, as well as the maps my partner and I run a small flower shop over here.
Hope you approve of the combination. All of the beautiful flowers we sell come from…wait for it…yes, The Netherlands.

Weekend is still with us, hope you all make the most of it!

Best wishes,
Kevin Paul

A quick hi to all,

Sorry, forgot the Bahasa Malaysia page.
It’s a really nice sounding language.

Anybody have a friend from Malaysia that can translate
From English to Bahasa Malaysia?

City Map in Bahasa Malaysia is: PETA KOTARAYA
I just need this accompanying text for the page:

At this rate I'm sure that the following 5 languages will soon be in the box:

This just in:

An Esperanto language expert did a search on Google:

- stavanger map translations

The CartoTalk link came up (Language – CartoTalk) resulting in the following:

Alklaku la bildon por elŝuti la mapon en PDF-formato. http://www.stavanger...erview_esp.html

Proving that; not only does CartoTalk provide a great internal network of specialists, but also external links through the search engines to outsiders.

Powerful stuff!

All the best,
Kevin Paul

This just in from:

His Excellency Adnan Othman, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) translation:

Seems the message just somehow gets around the planet. What’s that I hear you say
“Pale Blue Dot”
it sure is!

Still on the go:

- Finnish
- Icelandic
- Albanian

Anyone up for it?

All the best,
Kevin Paul

You have a taker on the Albanian. I must preface, however, that my Albanian is not authoritative. I have been living here for about a year now, and am conversational. I would look for an Albanian to proof this. Having said this, something is better than nothing.

Zero; Nada to go

The Cultural Departments came through today:
Finnish: http://www.stavanger...verview_fi.html
Icelandic: http://www.stavanger...erview_isl.html

This post is now officially closed. A warm appreciative "thank you" to all involved.
Your input has without a doubt been tremendous.

Language is so important and should be treated with the greatest respect.

The combination of a single map in many different languages creates a powerful source of information that crosses all borders.

Take care one and all,
Kevin Paul
