Hi all. i'm trying to find a good geoCMS(Geo Content Management System) software that has a solid design potential (color selction, nice icon capabilities, etc) but doesn't require me to be a javascript or PHP expert. i've heard of drupal, plone, tikiwiki, etc. but i don't know which to start with or even how to start. the goal of the map is to allow both my clients and the public update content of a map online on the fly. basically create an interactive map that is updatable by all through a GeoRSS feed. I'm an advanced GISer and can do basic web sites and even interactive flash maps but web programming languages are a bit foreign to me. Thanks so much for your help, Jonathan

In addition to what I sent you over PM, you should look into Zeemaps. Most mapping programs/providers/services that I have seen or encountered don't offer a "public update" feature.


Also, are you looking to manage a single map, or multiple maps?

thanks alot i will check out zeemaps now. this is for a single map of downtown manhattan basically of geocoded points throughout the Bowery where artists work or once worked. there are interviews and lots of info about each artist so each point has a fair bit of attribute date which will be displayed(most likely on a rollover). I'm not sure if there is but i think an open source software called drupal may offer some public update function.

I'm trying to avoid having the google logo. I'm also thinking about "skinning" googlemaps to give it a different look. anyone out there familiar with that process?

wow, zee map is super easy to use! but still using too much googlemaps. i guess ideally i would use my own stylized GIS layers (buildings,parks, etc.) and export them and possibly overlay them over a googlemap . I"m looking to have the control of the style.

hey, has anyone here ever checked out openlaszlo as an alternative to flash mapping?

OpenLaszlo is a great platform, but I imagine you would have to do much of the mapping engine yourself?
