I have a map file that was created on a Mac (OS 9) using Freehand 8. I can open it in Freehand 8 on a Windows XP machine. I export to AI and can open up that file in Illustrator 9 on the same machine without any problems. I have also successfully opened the AI file in Illustrator CS2 on a Mac with no issues. But, when I try to open the file in CS3 on a Windows XP machine, I get a simple message that tells me CS3 can't open the file. I've tried opening the FH directly in CS3, exporting to pdf and eps, all sorts of combinations and permutations without any luck. CS3 doesn't seem to like the file but older versions of Illustrator don't seem to have any issues with it.
Any suggestions or thought?

Never mind. I've whittled it down (slowly) to the offending layer(s), deleted them, saved and then was able to open in CS3. Not sure what objects or layers were the problem but the deleted layers didn't diminish from the map very much and can be easily replaced.
