GIS Analyst/Cartographer/Information Designer: Multidisciplinary, Intellectually Challenging Opportunity

BERK & ASSOCIATES seeks an analyst/researcher/information designer with GIS skills to work on a range of engaging and community-building policy and management consulting projects, and help advance our GIS practice.

ABOUT BERK: We are a dynamic, growing, 18-year old firm with an outstanding reputation for providing integrated strategy, analysis, facilitation, and communication services. We are the largest policy development and analysis firm in Washington, and the only one with an interdisciplinary, whole systems approach to addressing community and organizational needs.

OUR APPROACH. We collaborate with senior management, elected officials, and business and community leaders to address complex policy problems, design implementable, consensus-based solutions and create living plans that energize and direct community activities, investments, programs, and policies. Our clients include state, regional, and local governments, non-profits and businesses; and our projects encompass multiple realms, including transportation, economic development, community planning, parks, education, libraries, health, and technology.

We use GIS to analyze and communicate public policy choices and their economic and political implications. Our maps and exhibits are featured in public meetings and policy reports, and are used to create understanding and facilitate consensus.

OUR TEAM. Our 15-person team includes policy and financial analysts, economists, urban planners, cartographers, strategic planners, facilitators, and information designers. We work on a collaborative basis, in a team environment. Our culture includes annual retreats, seminars and courses to enhance our skills, celebrations of our achievements at lunches and parties, and ongoing learning and information sharing through project forums.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: An analyst with advanced GIS experience to work on a range of interesting projects, and help us innovate using GIS and other software tools. In addition to the GIS, cartography, and information design work, this person will also participate in a wide range of strategic planning and financial and economic analysis tasks. Prior consulting experience is preferred, as is thorough knowledge of the Puget Sound region and familiarity with a wide variety of economic, demographic, and municipal data. Candidates must have excellent cartographic design abilities, consistently produce high quality maps and analyses on firm timelines, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work efficiently on multiple projects. Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is preferred, and experience with Python, Flash, or other relevant programming languages is a plus. The ideal candidate has three years of project-based experience, a masters degree, excellent writing and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task.

To compensate our staff members for their exceptional work, we offer a competitive salary, excellent benefits, professional development, and a rewarding and fun work environment.
