Some of you know I am a huge fan of Edward Tufte. He is THE authority on information graphics design (see my posting here for a list of his books).
On his web site he has reviews of 3 very good books related to cartography:
William Loy, Stuart Allen, Aileen R. Buckley and James E. Meacham, The Atlas of Oregon
Ken Garland, Mr. Beck's Underground Map - about the history of the London Underground map
Eduard Imhof, Cartographic Relief Presentation - hard to find but written by the master of the Swiss cartography style

Ken Garland, Mr. Beck's Underground Map - about the history of the London Underground map
If you're interested in Underground maps, check out Metro Maps Of The World by Mark Ovenden (ISBN 1-85414-272-0). Very informative book which discusses the design of a lot of underground maps from all over the world and how the design changed in time and as the systems themselves developed. I picked up a copy at a Border's bookstore in London earlier this year, 25 UK pounds.
Eduard Imhof, Cartographic Relief Presentation - hard to find but written by the master of the Swiss cartography style
Would love to get a copy of this book.

I forgot to mention that the Beck's Underground book is only available in the UK (or Amazon.co.uk).

I understand you are from the Netherlands, do you need an English or a German version of E. Imhofs, Cartographic Relief Presentation ?

I would prefer English, but I can read German as well. My German is at the 'average tourist' level

Sorry can´t help with an english version, but the german one is for sale by one of the many antique/used book stores which cooperates with:
www.zvab.com
(zvab: Zentrales Verzeichnis Antiquarischer Bücher, Central Directory /Clearinghouse for antique books)
Just Type in "Eduard Imhof" or "Geländedarstellung" at the search prompt. There is at least one copy for 100€.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Andreas
