Although to me that looks like a rightward tilt.

I like how the buttons on the map and the text buttons in the left menu work together. You can choose how you want to navigate the information. It's a nice touch. I also like how the back-ground image extends behind and past the scroll bars and copy. Another subtle graphical touch many designers wouldn't think about.

Yes, a decent design. Is this a 'spread of communism' piece disguised as market-shift news? Cuba could have been labeled or given a little emphasis otherwise.

Very nice indeed and oblique too which I love. Thanks Erin.
As to the subject matter. Someone should go wake up United Fruit Co.

I certainly like the intent of the graphic design; however, the white internal boundaries are really sloppy. Just because it's online or interactive doesn't mean the job shouldn't be done completely right.
Also, as far as I can tell this isn't a choropleth map; just a 4-color map for the countries leaning to the political left. So, why the choice of a psuedo-mono chromatic color scheme?
Sorry, this would get slaughtered from a cartographic design standpoint in the NACIS Student Web Mapping Competition.
