I'm doing a large map at a scale of about 1:48000 and need to symbolize the highway interchanges (still in Arc). Most of the interchanges each have a number with an alphabetic suffix (like 40A, 40B). It'll create to much clutter symbolize each of those (I think at this scale), going to have to generalize and just have the number, which for most cases its pretty clear and makes sense.
But there are a few interchanges that share the same number but are far apart, usually with the ramp going to a different roads. Would it be better to place a symbol with the same number at each interchange or put a symbol in between?

Well, at 1:48000 there should be no problem showing the actual ramps!
But I would find it confusing to label Exit 48A at a place where there's no interchange. So I'd repeat the label.
