Skyhook Wireless has come up with a way to get positioning information in dense urban areas where GPS is usually not reliable enough. By using a database of known, public, wireless networks, they claim to be able to get an accuracy better than GPS. Coverage is currently limited to a number of major US cities.
I think it's a nice idea and interesting use of technology, but once you get out of the city, it's useless.
