Forgive the banal nature of my question, but I'm trying to source some beautiful maps as art for my home. Some time ago I saw a lovely map of the world which seemed particularly stylised. The map was quite large, seemed reasonably contemporary, landmasses were represented in solid blocks of colour and there was only minimal textual content, all in French. I originally spotted the map on the wall in Stanfords of London a few years ago, but retailers have a short memory and they can't help me. Not much to go on, I know, but if anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

Peter, London, UK.

You may want to look at the offerings of

I'm not familiar with European mail-order resources, but the French labels suggest you might see if it was something published by the IGN.

The easy availability of world data sets and large-scale plotters make it quite practical for many of us to create such a thing made-to-measure. A couple years ago I did an "artistic" map for a large multinational by having a world map with minimal labels (including cities where they had operations) on watercolor paper, and then having an artist friend do a simple watercolor wash to suggest land areas and water areas. For instance, you might want to look at http://www.shadedrelief.com/natural/
