As expected for a while, the Canadian government has made its 1:250,000 and 1:50,000 topographic map series data available free of charge and free of licence restrictions. This will be of great benefit to those creating maps of Canada. The press release is here and the website to download the data is here. Files are in ESRI shapefile format.
