I'm doing some local amateur mapping in Illustrator. So far I have been unsuccessful in finding a royalty-free Illustrator symbol library with a decent set of cartographic symbols. I've seen articles pointing to the IAN symbol libraries but their symbol range is limited.
Does anyone know where I might find a good cartographic symbol library for Illustrator?
Good cartographic Illustrator symbol libraries?

We have thrown around the idea of sharing Illustrator symbol and graphic style libraries in the past; but nothing has ever come of it. Maybe we need to revisit the idea. Beyond sharing, there is a basic set of 80 commmon cartographic clip art symbols on the Cartagram website which might be suitable for your project. Erin

We have a lot more storage space now on the server so it might be an interesting idea now.

All of those are very useful, especially the park symbols. Thanks.

What about fonts? Beyond Carta, there are many fonts with symbolic glyphs. Linotype Holiday Pi is just one example.
I realize you were asking for royalty-free, but perhaps you have some symbolic fonts that came bundled free with various software and you might not have thought to look through them.

Bundesbahn Pi and SignPix are a couple of commercial fonts that have a lot of symbols.

Hello guys,
My first post in this interresting forum !!
Ok here we go with a couple of links :
- Interresting TTF map symbol collection : Paris PC Consult
U can use them as font, but personnally i prefer to zoom in the PDF files, copy to clipboard and vectorize the appropraite symbole with Flash. Very clean result
- Here an other symbol font collection (the well known Dafont site) : DaFont (Dingbats section)
Regards
EDIT : first link updated !
