I thought this was an interesting (free) solution for uploading hi resolution maps/images to the internet. It's from University College of London's Advanced Spatial Analysis Centre.

It's seems kinda like Zoomify (but free). I haven't tested it out - but it's written in Java so most everyone can use it.

They also have another excellent tool called GMap Creator located at this link:


This tool will take a polygon shapefile and create transparent png images from it at all of the varying zoom levels available in Google Maps.

I wish I had found this before I used photoshop to cut up a dataset I had.... Doh!!!

Has anyone been using this program? My experience is that it accepts some shapefiles and rejects others (mostly rejects) but I can't see why. The most common error message is:

No fields in the shapefile contain numeric data.
The file must contain geometry and at least one
numeric field which determines the value of the
