This is why I have the extra ensurance/service on my laptop - I dropped half a cup of a double espresso into the keyboard yesterday... I managed to pour it off very quickly, so the rest of the machine is ok, but the keyboard is not. It has been soaking in water overnight, we'll see if that works - otherwise I have to send it in for repairs (the 3-year extra insurance expires in June, so this on the right side of the cut-off date!). I thought I would try to fix it myself first, too much extra work to backup the hard-drive and stuff, just to send it off...

Oh, and I managed to save half of the espresso, so the day wasn't totally ruined - I still got my caffeine...

Contrary to what many people think, coffee doesn't make your laptop run faster... ;)

All kidding aside, good thing you had that insurance. Even though it's money you pay for something you hope to never use, it's usually a smart thing to have it.

Hope it does not set you back too much in your work.

I have a rule here in my little home office... NO Food or Drinks around computers. (Only food for thought ;) )

A good week to all!

Have you tried taking a nice hot bath with your keyboard? Maybe throw in a few bath-salts and bubbles for extra potency! A few candles would add a nice touch as well. Kidding aside...sorry this happened. Hopefully it won't set you back.

it doesn't set me back for work, it is my mostly private/stuff laptop, at work I have a workstation. This is about the 2nd laptop keyboard with coffee in it, and I have ruined at least one desktop kbd this way...

I have already gotten my money's worth out of the insurance btw - I have had the motherboard replaced once...

Dont give up hope. I dumped some beer on my laptop last summer. ( I plead cramped quarters while working out of my truck camper  )

I turned it upside down right away, so nothing got into the inner workings. I thought it was toast given the progressively weird behavior of the keyboard, but I dried it out and it eventually started working again. The procedure I used was to pop up all the keys (though I didnt remove them entirely) and set the computer in the (warm) sun. It seems to me it took a while though (days or weeks?).

Good luck :)
