Hi all-
I'm looking to convert Wisconsin PLSS coordinates into UTM or lat/lon coordinates. According to the State Cartographer's Office, I can do so- if I purchase a third-party utility for $150. That is about $150 more than I am willing to pay.
I can convert Iowa and Minnesota PLSS coords for free. Off the top of my head, Wisconsin has the highest state income taxes out of the 3.
Now don't get me started on the Wisconsin Transverse Mercator system. The DNR's rationale for creating it was to have a single unified system in their GIS. Of course, WTM has nothing to do with real world field data acquisition. So field data still has to be converted to WTM back at the office. And I haven't come across a utility that converts WTM coords to "what the rest of the world uses" coords. Sigh.
Sorry for the whining.
