Hi,
My name is Justin and I've read this forum for a long time, but I've never registered. I figured it was time.
I am 26, and worked at Thomas Brothers in California from 1999 until 2001 in retail (during and after the Rand McNally buyout). Currently I work for a company called Mapsource in St. Petersburg, FL as a cartographer. My experience is mostly making maps with existing corporate styles (i.e., zero creativity), and i'm trying to learn on my own - things about style and composition, and this forum is really helpful. I'm a fair amateur but I put up some freelance things here. Sometimes I get jobs doing quickie maps for magazines, etc.
I am not a member of NACIS, but with work I am a member of the IMTA, and got to go to their convention in Colorado last September - and had a great time.
Thanks very much for the great forum, and I look forward to continuing learning and reading.
Cheers
Justin

'Sup Justin! - Decent maps on your site. Welcome!
What areas of cartography do you want to explore, aside from your professional portfolio?

Hi,
Thanks very much for the welcomes and the compliment.
I'm very interested in design and aesthetics, mostly - colours, fonts (I try to use the font that matches actual signage), line composition, all that. Its really nice to see all of the maps in the gallery forum. Those are usually pretty inspirational...

Welcome to the site Justin. Lots of interesting things go on here.
Your portfolio brought back some memories for me when I did a cartoon map of Tampa back in 1987.
