Hello, fellow cartographers. My name is Jeff, and I've loved maps for as long as I can remember. Seems only fitting (though lucky in today's economy) that I have a job in the field.
I was born and raised in the St. Louis area, got a BA in geography from the University of Missouri--Columbia in 2001, and moved to Chicago after graduation. I work for a fairly well-known map company in Chicago (but not the one in Skokie).
Anyway, I came across this web forum through Avenza's website. I hope we have some lively discussions!
Glad to be here

Hello all,
I am going to piggy-back onto Jeff's introduction as he is the one who just introduced me to this forum. I work at the same company as him about 8 feet N-NW of him also in cartography.
I have a degree in Geography/Cartography-GIS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I thought I would join the list and see what all this community has to offer.
Looking forward to chatting with you all

I think there are a fair amount of cartographers from Chicago on the board...
How many mapping companies are there in Chicago?
Welcome!

Hi Jeff
Welcome.
Although I'm English I worked for that well know cartographer in Skokie. Have visited Chicago many times and love the place. I was thinking about it today. Weather in Cumbria is dull and grey, but I rememebr winter evenings on Michigan Avenue looking up to the sky to see the Hancock Center and other skyscrapers disappearing into the orange-lit clouds. Damn cold, but beautiful.

I lived in Chicago most of my life, and the last four years we lived on Lake Shore Dr. right at the junction of Belmont. Great city to live in.
