OK, I'm sure some of you have been using this for a while, but I just discovered the joys of the symbol sprayer and related tools in Illustrator. I am working on an old style map with generalized mountain drawings for relief and being able to "spray" them on the map and adjust the results (and update the symbol later) is the coolest thing since sliced bread!
If you haven't played withe these tools yet, you should. It's like they were made for cartographers, which is probably why a bunch of the sample symbols are map related.

I've never used the symbol sprayer for a cartography project, but I have used it for other personal design projects. Joy indeed!
