I thought I saw something on this forum awhile ago pertaining to selecting text based on font type in Illustrator - but I can't find it. I have looked on Adobe Exchange to no avail and I don't think R.Johnson's plug-ins are going to do the job.
I wish Illustrator's "Find Font..." would morph into a "Select Font..."

This sounds like a feature of Freehand, but I'm not sure. Where is the "find font" in Illustrator? Are you talking about Select< Object< Text Object ?

The find font command under the type menu. (AI cs1) is used to replace one font type with another. You are correct it does not do a select by font type....

Thanks Jacques. I'm not sure how I missed that for so long! What a handy tool.

I think it would be A LOT more handy if you could "select" fonts by their typeface. It has to be possible as the "Find'Font..." command can essentially select and change fonts in the background.

Yes it would be a lot more handy if you could select fonts by their typeface.
Using Adobe scripting it could be done (if not already) via the textface object read only name property.
Cheers.

This thread's a bit old now, but I'm a new member and I just read this. I had exactly the same frustrations, so I wrote scripts to select by font, and by size. Applescript only I'm afraid, but if I could write them it wouldn't be hard in javascript! Anyway, if anybody reads this and wants them please contact me via e-mail, or I'm more than happy to post the code here.

G'day Andrew,
It's good to hear that you have a script for finding fonts - it's just the thing that I've been looking for!
Is your offer of emailing the script stiil available?
If so, please email me and let me know if this is possible.
Thanks, Andrew
Talk with you soon,
Cheers,
Laurie.
