My vote.... 2 for water and 2 for land.

Maybe a bit of more kerning for the outline text (land)...

I guest you don't have any choices but to use the outline on land with this type of dark background. :)

(Have you tried as suggested, an outter glow for a suttle outline effect...)

Yeah, you pretty much have to accept the fact there's an outline for the land-based texts. Since the background usually is multi-colored, anything else has a hard time standing out, unless it's very large.

I did try the outer glow, but I couldn't get it to work properly (and I doubt it would have the same effect as the outline).
