This morning I've been working with a wetland pattern and trying to apply that technique demonstrated at Practical Cartography Day for scaling patterns using the tilde key. I'm sure it's straightforward but I'm having difficulty figuring it out. I would like the pattern artwork to be smaller & more detailed than the pattern that I have. Formerly, I would have just made a new pattern swatch. But apparently I can also scale up/down on the fly using the tilde key and dragging on the pattern? I've tried to do this both directly on the filled object as well as the pattern swatch sample itself, but I can't seem to make this technique work. Can someone help? Maybe I misunderstood the point of the demo at PCD?

never mind...I figured it out! it's easy to do...I was just doing the steps in the wrong order. don't know why it has taken me so long to discover this tool, seems like I'm always trying to find the elusive perfect pattern size for a particular map scale.
