I was surfing around on GISLounge and i came upon this site.

Glad to know there is a small community of cartographers online.

So where do I start? My name is Mike, and I am originally from Toronto, Canada. I was born and raised there and spent my whole life there until recently. I graduated from University of Toronto in 2003 with an Hon.BA in Geography. My majors were Urban Geography and GIS. In 2004, I graduated from Sir Sandford Fleming College with a GIS Cartographic Specialist diploma. I worked for Rand McNally Canada as a cartographer for 5 months and I recently moved to Redlands, CA to be lead cartographer at ESRI in the ESRI Press department. My interests: design, mapping, tech culture, music, golfing, rollerblading, hiking, and i'm an automotive nut!

So... i think that's it for now. :D

Mke,

Welcome.

Looking at your background, look up Mark Cygan there at ESRI he has a bit of history with Rand McNally too (albeit a while back) and say hi to him for me while you're at it.

This map community really seems inbred sometimes, doesn't it?

Welcome Mike,

I graduated from Sir Sandford Fleming College in 1990. (Cartographic Technology). That was back in the days when maps were made using scribe coats and peel coats and hours were spent in the darkroom!

Awesome! a fellow Fleming grad!

then you must surely know Tony Bonnici! he taught me a bunch of classes... he's still doing well and very enthusiastic. he's a really great person and instructor! he won't be teaching microstation anymore (which he taught for a really really long time)...

I know Tony. I saw him last June at the college. The Canadian Cartographic Association held its annual conference there and I presented a paper on Cartographic Guidelines that were created by the MNR. Tony presented in the same session and I was introduced by Ron Schepper. Talk about no pressure!!!

I agree with you about Tony. He is awesome!
