i was thinking the same thing while i was watching the animation. i would love to see the data at a census tract level. it is scary though, the level of obesity in the US is out of control.

actually, I need the data, but only for NYC :) The non-profit I am consulting for wants to correlate poverty to obesity... they are a hunger advocacy group that represents the 1300 soup kitchens and food pantries in NYC.

i'll let you know if any of our local agency data requests get answered.

Nice .

The definition of the color gradient is not defined too obviously.

I was thinking it would be nice to see the animation at county level (esp. for California). Funny to see the "Twinkie belt" stretch from Va to Tx! Sorry - that's a little insensitive.

i was trying to dig around the CDC site to find the data but could only get at the reports; nothing tabular and nothing by tract or county that would be useful for mapping. anyone with a CDC contact?

Rob, Yes its the CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

I found a link under the 'Data Files and Technical Information'
http://www.cdc.gov/B...surveydata.htm/

Data by year in zip of Excel files.

Nice find... anyone know what that GEOSTR variable is? The state has a 2 character code, easy enough, and then GEOSTR. I'm not willing to download 42mb just to take a peek... at least, not right now :)
