So here is my photoshop made map sketch. What do you think? Is it realistic? I am still working on it, this particular is at a low resolution, sorry. I will post the creation process later as I am short for time now.

It's interesting in an artistic way, although I am not sure I would call it a map (no title, legend, scale bar, etc.). Is it an imaginary landscape or somewhere in Europe? I am curious about the different textures on the water features.

What is the intended use? Who is the intended audience? It reminds me of an RPG world map.

Sorry for the lack of info, I was in a rush there.
benbakelaar It is indeed an RPG region map, and the intended use is for deciding a general destination.
cartomat No i is not completely finished but I was asking for feedback as you said, in an artistic way. As for the location it is imaginary. The textures on the water features stem from a mix of ocean ripples, clouds, highlights, smudge stick filters, and layer effects.
Here is that ceation process I promised!
I took my map and condensed it into one layer to start.
1. Copy Layer
2. Image > Adjustments > Desaturate the copy
3. Copy Black and white layer
4. Image > Adjustments > Invert with 2nd copy selected

5. set inverted layer to color dodge in righthand dropdown menue (picture should go mostly white)
6. Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur Play with the radius till it looks right

Note: this process gives you a black and white sketch wich you can color as described below. If you wish you skip the desaturated layer and just invert the first copy but as this does not always work I prefer this method.
7. Use the magic wand to select an area you want to color but do it on the original Layer
8. Select the newest layer
9. Layer > New Adjustment Layer >Hue/Saturation check off Use Previous Layer to create a clipping mask
10. Check off colorize and play with the Hue, saturation, and lightness sliders till it looks right.
Your Done!
As cartomat expresed interest on the water I will post how to make the original water which looks like this

1. Select all the water with the magic wand.
2. Select a round brush 43 master diameter with 62% opacity white to simulate waves
3. outline all coasts with water selected
NOTE: I find that for best effect put brush about half way under land
4. Distort > Ocean Ripple
5. Artistic > Smudge Stick
NOTE: steps 4 and 5 appear to sharp with high resolution photos and minimal softening of edges with the blur tool is required in that situation.
6. Deselect water
7. Blur coast of land SLIGHTLY

Wow that is really creative! Good job, I used to be an amateur pro at Paint Shop Pro back a few years ago, but I mostly used it to do things like remove people/objects from photos and generate crazy kaleidoscope prints.
