Hi,

I have a job request from another employee that wanted me to highlight or stand-out a few  selected roads and I am wondering if there are an examples that can I take a look at on the internet ?  I had no luck in searching for it.

Has anyone out there done that before ?

The layer I am working on is Roads and it is a line.

To make this a summary, the map is already has been set up as a background road map with various layers in it. The individual did shown me 5 different roads that the employee would like me to display a "stand-out" or  highlight.

I am currently working for the Forest Service and they have their Motor Vehicle Use maps for each forest and the county in Teller County, Colorado would like to have these five routes to show an open motorized routes in their county.

What software are you using? Assuming something like ArcGIS. I'd separate the selected road segments into a new layer, beneath the main road layer, give them a slightly thicker line and some highlight color (depending on the background color; yellow, orange, purple, whatever works). I might even adjust the opacity on that layer to make it blend in with the background more. That's a quick a dirty GIS line highlight.

or the ski tours:

The lines are slightly transparent.

You can differentiate the categories with different colors and/or dashed and dotted lines.
