Does anyone have any experience mapping an arboretum?
Half of the grounds have already been mapped, but it needs an update. They recently added 5 acres with mature trees, and they want that to be added with a bingo grid to identify every tree. (The site is ten acres total.) There will also be an inset map of the dwarf conifer garden with its own plant list.
I have only a consumer-grade gps---would I do better to plot the trees from a satellite image, then walk around with a clipboard?
I'd appreciate any suggestions!

That could be a viable approach, as long as you have a recent (i.e. this season) satellite image.
