Here's an excerpt of a base map to be used in visualizing/animating their route in a TV-production. (As of now, they ar just beyond half way).

Produced with open data from the Norwegian Polar Institure using hybrid shaded relief and texture shading together with hachure shading (Patterson), and rendered as a planimetric oblique map, using Natural Scene designer.

Next step will be to animate the route progress toghether with some labels using Flash or other animation software. For that I will have to await their actual GPS-track once they are back from their expedition.

Here's a first attempt to a map animation, created in Flash.

It's original size (WxH) is small, and unfortunately facebook compressed it when I upladed it, so the quality isn't all that good.

But it's a promising start.

Looks very nice! I hope the actual broadcast version will be in high-def to do your map justice.

Definitely.  This was just a proof of concept.
