I’m looking for recommendations for a reasonably priced (<$500) printer that can print 11x17 maps. I’ve read tons of reviews online, but of course people are usually talking about photo quality or text quality, but maps, as we all know, incorporate aspects of both.  So I’m looking to see what others may be using and which printers are best at handling things such as subtle color ramps, fine line work (like parcels), and text with small fonts. I’m not expecting to get the quality of something like a Xerox phaser as I don’t have the space or budget for that. Any recommendations for (or against) specific inkjet printers are welcome.

Thanks,

-Rick

Take a look at the Epson Artisan 1430. The nice thing about this unit is you can buy an aftermarket bulk ink system if you do a lot of printing. The exorbitant cartridge costs is my main beef with most of the desktop printers.

Thanks, I am considering that one.  My main concern with it is the reported print speed is VERY slow compared to comparable units.
