Hi All!

I am following Tom Patterson's Landsat 8 Photoshop tutorial. After I merge the RGB channels and adjust the curves in Photoshop, I notice a lot of color artifacts in the image (blue, red, and purple specs throughout). I downloaded Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS C1 Level-2 images from Earth Explorer (USGS).

Does anyone know why this may be happening? I'm trying to achieve a nice, natural color. I plan to merge several images together and use them within Natural Scene Designer.

Thanks!

Erica

Level-2 Images are processed images (atmospheric correction).

The tutorial describes how to create a natural color composite with level-1 data (orthorectification).

Thus you may need to change a bit the corrections you perform in Photoshop.

can you post a small portion of image and the curves that you have applied?

Thanks for the response Luca!

I've attached a cropped image of the composite image as well as the curves window for you to see how it has been applied.

I could go back to Earth Explorer and download the level-1 Landsat data (orthorectification).

Let me know if that is not needed / if there is a workaround that you identify. Thanks for any help you can provide.

it seems that some pixels are burned out (the artifacts): they are pixels that are right to the white handle in the curve. If you drag the handle right they should disappear. Your image becomes probably darker, you need to apply some others corrections.

Could you give us the scene id? if I have some spare time I can try to play a bit with the same image to help you further.
