The original Libre Map Project is now closed. However, the site, is kept as an archive of the work.

The links to the North Carolina Digital Raster Graphic Maps and to individual NC DRGs are broken.

Does anyone know who can be contacted for re-establishing the page?

There are other sources for topographic quadrangles, JoeFred, but let me know if you can't find what you need here:

Thanks, Steve.

I downloaded one of the North Carolina DRGs at https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/ ...Waynesville.

Using MicroDEM-4 Build 2015.8.21.100, I opened the DEM (Type TranzDEM64.FileAssoc.dem) for the correspoding Waynesville quadrangle. When I try open the image file NC_Waynesville_165039_1942_24000_geo (file type tif),  I get the message "Tiled TIFF file will have problems; Rewrite GDAL (strongly encouraged)?

When I chose "Yes", I got messsage "Missing (need FW-tools); locate now?" I chose "Yes", I was provided a means to navigate on my PC to the folder microdem > fwtools > gdal-data. It had no items that match the search.

I backtracked to the Open image step...

When I chose "No", I got message "Unsupported TIFF 3075 Projection Option, offset=22".  Clicked "OK" and got a "Pick Projection Parameters" dialog box for "WORLD GEODETIC SYSTEM 1984". I bailed out.

Thanks to great help from you and other members years  ago, I have successfully created numerous shaded terrain topos using MicrDEM as above, but with DRGs from the Libre Map Project site.

Still being a novice (at best) and having a limted need to do North Carolina projects, I was looking for a simpler approach.

The problem could be as simple as my opening the https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/ image file in MicroDEM improperly

Ideas?

I use a 2011 version of Microdem, JoeFred, so I don't think I can help much with your error messages.  I do know there are certain projections that Microdem can't handle.  I haven't been using the newer versions because the one from 2011 lets me do regrotation and the new Microdem refuses to coexist with alternate versions of the program.

Here are links to three additional sources for USGS quadrangles.  I'm pretty sure the quadrangles at Archive.org will be similar to what was once available from Libre.

Best Wishes,

Steve R.

You, Steve R., are a lifesaver. The Archive.org quadrangle was the ticket.

Many thanks,

JoeFred
